Advanced Company Class
April 29 - May 2

Advanced class is for strengthening and applying stage combat skills. This will be a look at how Affair of Honor prepares actors for their shows through learning stage combat drills and movement training.  Participation will challenge and strengthen artists' stamina, choreography retention, and partner connection. In the large ensemble movement and fight pieces found in our productions, actor connection, synchronicity and spatial awareness is key to the successful execution and safety of all performers involved. 

What we will cover:

  • Weapon Based techniques and drills

  • Functional and Dynamic Movement choreography

  • Moving as an ensemble

  • Foundations to Compound and Complicated Skill Building (unarmed and weapon work)

  • Working fights and movement, including explosive 1v1 duel style and group brawl melee style.

  • Creating an ensemble based Affair of Honor opening number 

 

PRE-REQUISITES:

- Artists who have completed actor training programs and/or have professional experience.

- Hold a Basic Certification with AFDC or above or equivalent training

FOUNDATIONS
COMPANY CLASS
JUNE 3 - 6

Company foundations is an inside look into how Affair of Honor creates and prepares for shows.  Using physical theatre and stage combat mediums the artist will come out with an introduction to the foundational skills and safeties used in all our productions. 

What we will cover:

  • Physical movement drills and skills 

  • Honing range of motion with a focus on stamina and strength training 

  • Dynamic movement and choreography retention

  • Text and movement work

  • The basics of sword work and stage combat safeties

  • Working in an ensemble 

  • Learning a basic fight between partners

 

PRE-REQUISITES:

- Artists who have completed actor training programs and/or have professional experience.

The Affair of Honor sword starter kit! This class is all about foundations, perfect if you have never held a sword before or are looking to work your fundamentals.  We will cover the basics of sword including footwork, parries, and attacks while introducing the safeties and techniques that are used to keep a fight flashy, fast and safe.

Enter The Nunchaku
June 4

 

Come play with one of the most extra weapons around! This class will focus on the basic skills and techniques to handle Nunchucks! Discover the importance of momentum and direction of energy in solo practice and how to work with this flexible weapon in choreography. Class open for those with little to no nunchaku experience! Soft practice chuks will be provided and available for purchase after class.

Let's Get Physical
June 4

Join us for a long form AOH classic! Our movement essentials. Learn some of our classic company warm ups, used to build stamina for our fight heavy shows.  This class is all about moving and having fun while doing it. Following simple to complex movements, come explore how your body can move! We will focus on enhancing dynamic movement, animal flow and how we connect our mind and our body while building an ensemble.

Bare Knuckles
June 5

This class will introduce you to the fundamental concepts and skills used in Stage Combat. Learn the essential tools to keep yourself and your cast members safe the next time your script calls for a “fall” or a “slap” and build more complex techniques from there. You will learn a small sequence of choreography for you and a partner to explore with character and motivation.

Down & Dirty
June 5

Getting close, moving fast and moving with a partner to execute a dynamic, hard hitting complex fight sequence. This class will contain some close quarter, body to body movements and contact strikes. Strong partnerships come from building a foundation of trust.  This class will explore different exercises and techniques to help build that connectivity. We will also focus on enhancing dynamic movement and effective partnering. Through the choreography, we will begin to layer on different ideas to help with chemistry, including active connectivity, and non- verbal communication.

 

Pre-requisite: AFDC Basic or Equivalent Training

Hone & Sharpen
June 6

This class will drill and apply sword skills at a fast pace.  This is a great class to challenge your technique, footwork and choreography retention.  We will work quickly, introducing compound and complex attacking drills and then create a longer piece of sword choreography that contains even more comprehensive skills! 

Pre-requisite: AFDC Basic or Equivalent Training

Cancellations made more than 7 days in advance of the start date will receive a 100% refund of the workshop fee.

Cancellations made within a week to the workshop start date will incur a $75 cancellation charge onto their refund.
