August Fight Lab
Affair of Honor is excited to announce Summer FIGHT LAB 2024. We will be holding a variety of short form workshops from August 17th -22nd at the amazing Presentation House Theatre. We are so excited to host these events in person and welcome you into our rehearsal halls once more! We have a variety of courses to either brush up on your skills, or get you ready for the concepts and techniques you will be learning. Also each participant has the opportunity to share what they've learned in a showcase on August 22nd at 7pm on Thursday Night at Presentation House Theatre where you can bring family and friends and meet other participants who have taken classes. This is voluntary and we will provide free rehearsal/coaching Aug 18 - 21 from 10am - 12pm and Aug 22 tech time from 10am - 5pm for anyone who wants to share. The Show Case will also feature some new fight works in development from other artists in the stage combat community. Come play with us

August 17
Stage Combat
The Affair of Honor sword starter kit! This class is all about foundations, perfect if you have never held a sword before or are looking to work your fundamentals. We will cover the basics of sword including footwork, parries, and attacks while introducing the safeties and techniques that are used to keep a fight flashy, fast and safe.

All for One
August 18
Stage Combat
This is an introductory class to the Musketeers weapons of choice; Rapier and Dagger. Learn not only how to work with the Rapier, but how to manage a weapon in each hand. Attack and defence double in this discipline! Using safeties and techniques used to create dynamic and exciting stage fights, you will learn a sequence of choreography with your classmates to put these skills into action.
Prerequisite: AFDC Basic and Above

Shakespeare
In Action
August 19
With Mike Stack
Text Work
A playful, active and physical workshop to help you bring Shakespeare’s language and characters alive. How do we first approach a piece of text? Verse? Prose? What about the punctuation and rhythms intrinsic to the writing? This session will introduce practical ways to explore the text, what to look for, as well as physical and vocal exercises that help us to embody it deeper. We will play it as one large group, in pairs, and on our own, pulling the text apart and piecing it back together, mining it for the treasures contained therein. Everything we need to know as an actor is contained within the verse and prose of the character. Shakespeare is a treasure chest, a Trojan Horse, a fire waiting to be lit. This workshop will provide you with some tools to help you navigate your own way through the text, allowing you to make it vivid and authentic.

Knights of the Roundtable
August 20
Stage Combat
Cleave through this class with the deadly longsword. This beautiful two handed weapon will challenge footwork and will focus on compound and complex attacks. Come fight like King Arthur after he's pulled the mighty Excalibur from the stone. This class will be driven by learning a fight sequence and will challenge choreography retention.

Operation Jackie Chan
August 21
Stage Combat
How do you use a broom, a book, a bucket, a kettle, and carry-on luggage in a fight? Learn how to become resourceful like Jackie Chan. We will learn all the safeties and techniques in how to manage everyday household items in a fight. In this class we will create fight choreography that has everyone ducking, dodging and possibly taking a spatula to the face.
