From Vancouver’s “beloved” “cult sensation” Geekenders, and Affair of Honor (the Jessie-nominated company behind SOUL SAMURAI), comes an intimate, scintillating look at what really could have befallen the murderer named Jack.
KILL THE RIPPER is a darkly comic female-led Victorian era revenge fantasy featuring over-the-top fight and movement sequences set to an original murder ballad meets-modern music score. The show has a gorgeous Victorian production design featuring an elegant gas lamp centrepiece and sumptuous costumes invoking the period.
London, 1888: As the notorious Jack the Ripper dominates thoughts, headlines, and shadows, best friends Kit and Pudding meet eccentric charmer Viola, who changes not just their lives with her wild ideas but Kit's ideas about love.
Viola challenges Kit and Pudding about what fate does and doesn't have to mean to their lives as sex workers, mothers, individuals, and women. This sparks the idea that the three of them together can learn self defence and kill Jack the Ripper if any of them should happen to meet him. Eventually, after a myriad of those with power (men) refuse to take them seriously, the women realize they must teach themselves, and set out to become their own heroes.
